Healthcare Scholarship Program

Overview: Donalsonville Hospital's Healthcare Scholarship Program has been investing in the future of healthcare for more than 35 years. The program supports the next generation of healthcare professionals pursuing education in rural healthcare fields with the expectation they will return to practice at Donalsonville Hospital.

Geographic Scope: Rural Seminole County, Georgia and surrounding areas

History & Impact:

  • 11 hometown physicians trained through the program who returned to practice locally

  • Recent returnees (2017-2018): 2 family medicine physicians, 1 OB/GYN, 1 general surgeon

    • Eligible Program Areas:

  • Medical Technician (4-year programs only) - Train to perform low to high complexity laboratory tests, detect parasites and bacteria, perform toxicology, hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and immunology tests

  • Radiology Technician/Radiologic Technologist - Technical knowledge of equipment and ionizing radiation combined with patient care skills; perform chest and abdominal x-rays, fluoroscopic exams, interventional studies, trauma and surgical radiography

  • Registered Nurse (RN) - Licensed healthcare professional providing and coordinating patient care; can specialize in any field of medical care

  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Provide basic nursing care under supervision including patient feeding, dressing, bathing, vital signs monitoring, wound care, and record keeping

    • Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants must be pursuing education in one of the eligible healthcare fields

  • Program prioritizes candidates from rural Georgia communities

  • Expected commitment to return to practice at Donalsonville Hospital
