Geographic Scope: National, with particular regional focus in Colorado and other areas with Hazon Advisory Boards

• JOFEE programs - Jewish Outdoor, Food & Environmental Education
• Sustainable food initiatives
• Environmental education
• Community food systems
• Grassroots sustainability projects

Program Description:
Small grants that help emerging JOFEE (Jewish Outdoor Food Environmental Education) programs and projects across the country. The initiatives funded by mini-grants accomplish significant impact with relatively modest funding amounts.

Geographic Example - Colorado:

• $20,000 allocated annually through Hazon Colorado Advisory Board
• Funded by: Rose Community Foundation, 18 Pomegranates, Oreg Foundation
• Cumulative impact: $80,000+ funded toward 40+ projects since program inception

Eligible Project Types:

• JOFEE education integrated into lifecycle events
• Sustainability initiatives in large mainstream institutions
• Programs connecting grassroots individuals to Jewish identity through JOFEE experiences
• Community food system projects

Funding Philosophy:
The program empowers individuals and institutions to identify changes they want to make in their communities, and simultaneously empowers funders to support that change. Projects have included kosher chicken slaughter operations and institutional sustainability initiatives.

Selection Process:

• Application reviewed by Hazon Advisory Board members
• Board discussion focuses on areas for community transformation
• Collaborative decision-making process
