Grant Writing Fund

Purpose: Support and encourage faculty and staff to seek external grant funding for research and scholarly activities.

Objective: Provides an incentive for faculty and staff to seek external funds to support research, creative, and pedagogical projects. Funding is provided by allocated indirect cost funds.

Eligibility:

• Principal Investigator (PI) or full-time University employee
• Teams of faculty and staff
• Must commit to development and submission of a major proposal to external funding source
• Proposed external grant must seek funds equal to or exceeding $8,000

Allowable Expenditures:

• Release time during academic year or summer stipend
• Select travel expenses (visits to funding agencies, etc.)
• Office and computer supplies, including software
• Hourly wages for assistants

Restrictions:

• All funding must be used within one year of grant award date
• If PI fails to submit proposal to external funding source, PI will not be eligible for Research and Grants program funding for two years
• Awardee must submit copy of completed grant proposal within one year after receiving award
• Office of Sponsored Programs must be provided with copy of letter from external agency notifying applicant of funding decision

Application Process

1. Complete Grant Writing Fund application (hard copy or electronic version)
2. Detailed instructions are provided on the form
3. Forward signed application with listed documentation to the Office of Sponsored Programs
4. Applications reviewed quarterly by the Sponsored Program Advisory Committee
5. Recommendations made to appropriate Senior Vice Chancellor for final award decisions
6. Applicants notified of funding decisions after quarterly meeting
7. Awardee required to submit copy of completed grant proposal within one year
8. Copy of funding decision letter from external agency to Office of Sponsored Programs
