Overview

Good¢ents Program

Overview: A voluntary round-up program funded by GVEA members who round up their monthly electric bills to the nearest dollar. Since its inception on March 1, 2011, the program has distributed over $1.3 million in grants to Interior nonprofits.

Geographic Scope: GVEA service territory (Interior Alaska). Organizations based outside the service territory can apply if their projects positively impact community members in GVEA's service area.

Eligibility:

  • Nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations

  • Must meet Good¢ents funding criteria

  • Projects or programs within GVEA's service territory
  • Award Amount: Up to $15,000 within a 12-month period per organization

    Funding Categories:

  • Disaster relief (emergency food, clothing, shelter, medical care, cleanup, reconstruction)

  • Community service (public safety, health care, education, self-sufficiency, basic human needs)

  • Economic development

  • Educational and leadership programs, civic responsibility, youth programs

  • Environmental and agricultural education and research
  • Funding Criteria:

  • Special or emergency need

  • Financial need

  • Supplemental funding

  • Potential benefit to Interior residents and communities

  • Level of community support

  • Fiscal and administrative capability

  • Tangible results within specified timeline
  • Does NOT Fund:

  • Political or religious purposes

  • Utility bills

  • Organized labor activities

  • Fundraising or fund drives

  • Advertising

  • Ongoing operational expenses, including payroll
  • Application Deadlines: Applications are due quarterly on the last day of January, April, July, and October.

    Application Process

    1. Submission: Submit Good¢ents Application (form available on website)
    2. Review Timeline: Board of trustees reviews applications quarterly and selects projects/programs to be funded
    3. Notification: Good¢ents announcements are shared quarterly
    4. Award Timeline: Organizations are notified of funding decisions after quarterly board reviews

    • Organization must be a nonprofit 501(c)(3)
    • Documentation demonstrating organization meets funding criteria
