Golden Shoe Fund

Overview: The Traverse City Track Club's Golden Shoe Fund program partners with area running coaches and local running stores (Fleet Feet) to help area running athletes receive new running shoes with dignity. Created in 2006.

Purpose: Running shoes are the most important equipment for student-athletes involved in cross country and track. The program addresses instances when a student-athlete's family cannot afford a proper pair of shoes to enhance their running experience.

Geographic Scope: Serves area running athletes in Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, and Leelanau Counties

Eligibility

• Grade Levels: Students in grades 3 through 12
• Identification: Identified through area running coaches who have qualified students
• Privacy: Program designed to ensure students in need will not lose eligibility or future scholarship opportunity; relies on the discretion of the young runner's coach

Program Details

• Student athletes use the shoes for the current sport season
• At season end, students may purchase the shoes from the school at fair market value
• Fair market value for used shoes after a season has been set at $0.00 by MHSAA representatives
• Partners with local running store Fleet Feet
