Program Description: The Gold Star Family Home Program provides mortgage-free homes to military families whose loved ones made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. The program addresses the housing instability military families face after a service member's death.

Problem Addressed:

• Military families are given only one year of on-base housing after a service member's death
• Those not on base receive modest temporary housing assistance
• Grieving families must relocate, disrupting children's schools and routines
• Families face overwhelming financial burden during loss

Program Scale:

• Goal: 1,000 homes at anticipated cost of $250 million
• 10 Gold Star widows have already received homes at program launch

Eligibility:

• Military spouses (widows) whose service member spouse was killed in service
• Military families with dependent children
