NOTE: Access to our Grants Management System is required to complete a grant application. If you do not currently have a grant with GHSP, it is recommended you complete the process for gaining access to the grant system in December prior to the onset of the application process that begins in January. GHSP Community Grants The Governor’s Highway Safety Program helps fund the efforts of law enforcement agencies, local governments, community​ organizations, schools and nonprofits to reduce traffic crashes in North Carolina. GHSP funds grants​ that address the following areas of highway safety: Drunken drivingSeat belt safetyPolice traffic servicesYoung driversMotorcycle safetyTraffic record-keeping GHSP also provides funds to address distracted driving and to make roads safer for older drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists, commercial motor vehicles and school buses.

Grants are awarded for one year onlyNon-Profit organizations will be required to submit a copy of their Conflict of Interest policy.Non-Profit organizations will also be required to submit certification they have no overdue taxes due.

Ineligibility

Specific restrictions on funding:Funding is NOT allowed for speed display signs (either pole mounted or enclosed in a trailer.Funding is NOT allowed for body cameras.There are also limitations on equipment or items GHSP cannot or will not fund:GHSP cannot provide funding solely for equipment.GHSP cannot provide funding for flashlights.GHSP cannot provide funding for firearms of any type.GHSP cannot provide funding for spike strips.GHSP cannot provide funding for uniforms.GHSP cannot provide funding for hand-held radios.
