Summary

The George Family Foundation's Youth Development Grant aims to empower youth from under-resourced communities by supporting initiatives that foster personal growth, educational enrichment, and workplace learning. By encouraging diverse interactions and community service, the foundation seeks to provide young people with the tools to thrive and positively impact their communities. Although unsolicited proposals are not accepted, Letters of Inquiry are welcomed during specific review periods.

Overview

NOTE: While the Foundation does not accept unsolicited proposals, Letters of Inquiry (LOIs) are welcome. We most actively review LOIs in January/February and July/August for board meetings in June and December. However, you may submit an LOI at any point throughout the year. Grantmaking Since its founding, the Foundation has developed trusted working relationships with grantees, building sustained engagement. The George Family Foundations supports programs, organizations and initiatives that transform lives by working to change the systems affecting those lives. Youth Development We Believe: We believe that youth who thrive and develop their innate talents are best able to positively impact their families, communities, and society. Our Aspiration: Support youth from under-resourced communities to realize their full potential by leveraging their unique talents and capabilities.Ensure diverse opportunities for youth to explore and develop their talents.Encourage interactions across racial and socioeconomic backgrounds. What We Fund: To support achievement of our aspirations, we seek to fund an intentional mix of Youth Development endeavors, including: Planning and PurposeWe increasingly fund initiatives that help young people explore personal motivation and direction by providing a variety of experiences as well as planning to identify and achieve goals.Educational EnrichmentWe support select programs that provide academic support alongside opportunities to spark interest and appreciation in topics not regularly covered during school.Workplace LearningWe support efforts that provide hands-on learning in a work environment, encouraging skills-based development as well as social and emotional growth.Across this funding area, we focus on organizations and programs that:Serve primarily middle and high school-aged youth.Work with youth over a longer time frame (years vs. days or weeks).Focus on youth from under-resourced communities.Encourage diverse interactions among a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds, providing opportunities for network building.Enable and encourage community service.Give youth voice in program creation and/or direction.

Types of organizations we fund:We focus on funding organizations that are aligned with our mission and are working to address deep, meaningful needs that they are uniquely positioned to meet.To support achievement of our aspirations, we seek to fund an intentional mix and balance of endeavors in each focus area.We only fund 501(c)(3) organizations.Although we sometimes fund select national organizations, we generally fund organizations working in Minnesota, Dallas, Northern San Francisco Bay Area/Marin County, and the Vail Valley.
