Overview

Last Call Foundation General Grant Program

Mission: Provide funding, education and research to advance the safety needs of the firefighting community.

Geographic Scope: Primary focus on fire service, with national reach through various initiatives.

Focus Areas:

  • Firefighter health, safety and welfare

  • Academic research related to fire service health, wellness and safety issues

  • Cancer awareness, prevention and research (70% of firefighters die of cancer)

  • Equipment and facility improvements for fire departments

  • Critical needs support for firehouses and firefighters

  • NFPA Technical Committee participation by firefighters

  • DetecTogether partnership for cancer education and mortality reduction

  • Next Generation Fire Hose development

  • First Responder support services
  • Eligibility:

  • Organizations with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status or 509(a) designation

  • Must address health, safety and welfare of firefighters

  • Must attest non-discrimination based on race, color, creed, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, national origin or political affiliation

  • Proposals must relate directly to firefighter health, wellness and safety issues
  • Funding Restrictions:

  • LCF will not provide funding for administrative costs for major institutions with sizeable endowments

  • Exceptions may be made for small organizations with justification and specified conditions

  • Funds must be used exclusively for purposes stated in grant application
  • Application Deadlines: April 1st and September 1st annually

    Award Announcement Dates: May 31st and October 1st respectively

  • Post-Award Requirements:

  • Funds must be used exclusively for outlined purposes

  • Detailed deliverables/reports to LCF at least quarterly

  • Research grants: Results, findings, conclusions and recommendations 45 days before publication

  • Equipment grants: Proof of purchase and installation prior to final payment (within 30 days of delivery)

  • Service project grants: Results within 30 days of completion

  • Extensions beyond 3 months require LCF approval with letter to Kathycrosby@comcast.net

  • Use of LCF name and logo in promotional materials must be approved

    5. Number of staff and volunteers expected to be engaged in proposal
    6. Description of proposed work:
    - Statement of problem or need being addressed
    - Target population
    7. Project goals and objectives with milestones and reasonable projections
    8. Expected deliverables and dates
    9. Anticipated outcomes or benefits
    10. Budget allocation: How funds will be used to complete project (include line-item expenses)
    11. Methodology: Brief outline of phases and associated budgets, with timelines; allocation of staff
    12. Evaluation: How will success be measured?

    Required Attachments:
    1. IRS letter confirming tax-exempt status (501(c)(3) or 509(a) if applicable)
    2. Most recent independent audit or account review and/or year-to-date financial statement for current fiscal year
    3. List of other organizations, foundations and funding sources being approached (if applicable) with:
    - Dollar amounts
    - Status (committed, pending, or anticipated)
    - Contact information
    4. Letters of recommendation in support of proposed funding from:
    - Fire service officials
    - Medical professionals
    - Mental health officials
    - Safety officials
    - Other relevant experts

    Important Notes:

  • Late applications will not be accepted or reviewed

  • Submission of proposal does not guarantee funding

  • Last Call Foundation reserves right to fund or reject proposal without specifying cause
