Gender-Neutral Single-User Restrooms – FY26 – State Funds The Minnesota Department of Education has funding available under Laws of Minnesota 2025, 1st Spec. Sess. chapter 10, article 8, section 18, subdivision 5, for grants for the purpose of remodeling, constructing, or repurposing space for gender-neutral, single-user restrooms. At least 80% of grant funds awarded in this program must be explicitly for these purposes. The Minnesota Department of Education’s Strategic Plan prioritizes that each student learns in a safe and healthy school environment. As such, this grant program is designed to intentionally increase accessible use of restroom facilities and improve student health and safety through measurable outcomes. Therefore, 20% of funds in this program may go toward activities related to engagement and implementation. Maximum grant amount: $150,000 which can be spent over two years. Applicants may apply to remodel, construct, or repurpose space for gender-neutral single-user restrooms across multiple sites, however no more than $75,000 may be spent per site.
