Overview

Food4Moms Produce Prescription Program

Status: Active three-year initiative

Geographic Scope: Hartford, Connecticut

Target Population: 150 pregnant Latina women, low-income

Focus Areas:

  • Increase access to fresh produce during and after pregnancy

  • Nutrition education and recipe demonstrations

  • Celebration of Hispanic culinary traditions

  • Reduce food insecurity among mothers and infants

  • Improve maternal and infant health outcomes
  • Key Features:

  • Monthly Benefit: $100 per month for fresh produce for ten months

  • Flexibility: Participants can choose in-store shopping or home delivery

  • Nutrition Education: Hands-on, culturally appropriate nutrition sessions delivered by bilingual Latina Registered Dietitian

  • Supportive Communications: Bilingual support with text message reminders

  • Community Engagement: Regular listening sessions, focus groups, and surveys

  • Compensation: Participants are compensated for their time in focus groups and surveys
  • Core Principles: Fidelity, Equity, and Dignity (FED)

  • Fidelity to Community: Multi-phased approach with active participant engagement

  • Dignity of Choice: Participants empowered to select their preferred mode of benefit utilization
