Food Assistance Grant

Overview: A limited-time grant application for food pantries serving United Way of West Alabama's nine-county coverage area, created in response to SNAP assistance suspension and food insecurity crisis.

Total Program Funding: $50,000

Geographic Scope: Nine-county service area including Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Marengo, Pickens, Sumter, and Tuscaloosa counties

Focus Areas:

Direct food purchases for food pantries

Costs associated with food distribution

Rapid response to urgent food insecurity needs

Eligible Applicants:

Food pantries that are part of the West Alabama Food Bank network

Located in the nine-county service area

Must provide a tax ID letter to apply

Use of Funds:

Funds must be used to directly purchase food and other costs associated with food distribution

Funds are intended to be spent for rapid response to urgent need

Each award should be spent within two weeks of receipt of funds
