Food Assistance Grant

Overview: A limited-time grant application for food pantries serving United Way of West Alabama's nine-county coverage area, created in response to SNAP assistance suspension and food insecurity crisis.

Total Program Funding: $50,000

Geographic Scope: Nine-county service area including Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Marengo, Pickens, Sumter, and Tuscaloosa counties

Focus Areas:

  • Direct food purchases for food pantries

  • Costs associated with food distribution

  • Rapid response to urgent food insecurity needs
  • Eligible Applicants:

  • Food pantries that are part of the West Alabama Food Bank network

  • Located in the nine-county service area

  • Must provide a tax ID letter to apply
  • Use of Funds:

  • Funds must be used to directly purchase food and other costs associated with food distribution

  • Funds are intended to be spent for rapid response to urgent need

  • Each award should be spent within two weeks of receipt of funds
