Grants range from $50,000 to $100,000 and are available for both early-career and established investigators.

Overview

NOTE: NEDA will issue an open inquiry for Letters of Intent and then will invite a select group of investigators to develop a full grant proposal. Feeding Hope Fund for Clinical Research Grant Since 2013, the National Eating Disorders Association has awarded over $2 million in research grants to 20 researchers. NEDA is committed to providing help and hope to those affected by eating disorders. To this end, NEDA’s Feeding Hope Fund for Clinical Research aims to support projects that will improve the lives of individuals affected by eating disorders. NEDA aims to be a meaningful funding organization for clinically relevant human participant pilot studies focused on eating disorders. It is understood that the resulting preliminary data from these pilot studies is typically part of a larger research plan that leads to further funding through federal agencies and foundations, which have the capacity to support more substantial, definitive projects. Of interest to NEDA are research projects, covering the broad spectrum of eating disorder diagnoses, that can be translated to clinical care and/or applied prevention strategies within one to five years; basic science research projects will not be considered at this time. In addition, NEDA is keenly interested in research projects that address participation from underserved community members, and projects that will translate increasing access to treatment for marginalized populations. NEDA will issue an open inquiry for Letters of Intent and then will invite a select group of investigators to develop a full grant proposal (see timing below). Investigators may only submit one grant application as PI (applicants must choose to apply for either a FHF grant or an Early Career Investigator grant). The two grant categories are as follows: NEDA Feeding Hope Award: This award is for up to $100,000, awarded over a two year period. This award is open to all eating disorders investigators. Innovative projects that advance or expand clinical care and/or early intervention strategies and projects that are not currently receiving other funding are a priority. Of particular interest are projects that involve underserved communities and/or translate to increasing access to care for marginalized populations. Early Career Investigator Research Grant: This grant of up to $50,000 is awarded to an investigator who is at the Assistant Professor level (or equivalent) or below, including, post–doctoral or pre-doctoral researchers. Funding may be awarded over a one or two year period. Of particular interest are projects that involve underserved communities and/or translate to increasing access to care for marginalized populations and/or understudied groups. Priority will be given to applicants and projects that are likely to support collection of preliminary data in preparation to seek additional funding from other sources.
