Farm Animal Welfare Grants

Geographic Scope: International; focuses on changing dominant institutions globally

Mission: Support initiatives to elevate the moral relevance of farm animals in major institutions, alleviate their suffering, and replace industrial animal agriculture with a dominant food system that does not rely on animals.

Focus Areas:

    1. Institutional Impact

  • Directly change policies and practices of institutions (food corporations, government, legislation, significant public institutions)
  • Build policy momentum

    2. Movement Power

  • People Power and Disruptive Capacity: Mobilize and organize people to influence institutional decision-makers
  • Narrative Influence: Influence important conversations and how farm animal issues are framed with key audiences
  • Policy and Electoral Capacity: Change institutional policies and increase importance of animal issues in political sphere

    3. Target Audiences

  • Youth: High school and college students actively engaged in movement
  • Elites: Cultural and political decision-makers and leaders; movement allies in decision-making positions

    4. Capacity Building

  • Operational support, training, strengthening movement cohesion and collaboration

    5. New Funding

  • Bring new funding into farm animal movement (major giving, monthly giving, bequests)

    6. Innovation and Experimentation

  • New or underfunded approaches addressing priorities
  • Solutions in important regions that currently seem less tractable

  • Individual diet change

  • Farm sanctuaries and direct animal care

  • Institutional plant-based advocacy, incubation programs, alternative proteins (currently not prioritized)

    How to Apply

    Application Process

    Mechanism: Invitation-only

    How to Get on Radar:
    1. Fill out "Introduce Yourself" form if your work aligns with Farm Animal Welfare strategy priorities
    2. Request to meet at conferences - reach out to Jesse Marks (Program Officer) via email or conference app

    Introduce Yourself Form:

  • Should take only a few minutes to complete

  • Focus on content over presentation

  • Include organization mission statement (or short 1-paragraph statement if no official version)

  • Provide org-level content and brief overview of what work you do that aligns with funding strategy

  • Brief Description: 1-2 paragraphs introducing yourself and organization

  • Can attach existing materials (annual reports, two-pagers, etc.) rather than create new documents

  • Can use whatever style works best (paragraphs, bullet points, links)

  • Only submit once; updates only needed if significant organizational changes occur
  • If Invited:

  • Complete short questionnaire

  • Use existing materials if they answer questions

  • No need for customized materials if existing ones suffice
  • Review and Timeline:

  • Form submissions reviewed once quarterly

  • Program officers contact organizations identified as potential fit via email

  • Contact could come within days, months, or years depending on funding priorities

  • Initial contact gathers additional information; does not guarantee invitation to apply
  • Important Notes:

  • Filling out form does not add you to mailing lists or guarantee contact

  • Program officers prioritize groups that best fit funding strategy during each grant cycle

  • If already in contact with Navigation Fund staff, do not need to submit form unless requested
