About MEIEA The Music and Entertainment Industry Educators Association (MEIEA®) is an international organization formed in 1979 to bring together educators with leaders of the music and entertainment industries. The primary goal of MEIEA is to facilitate an exchange of information between educators and practitioners in order to prepare students for careers in the music and entertainment industries. In order to seek professional practical knowledge and functional strategies in education, MEIEA® endeavors to: Provide resources for the exchange of information and knowledge about all aspects of the music and entertainment industries;Foster scholarly research on the music and entertainment industries as well as on music and entertainment industries education;Assist institutions with the development of music and entertainment industries programs and curricula;Facilitate interaction between the music and entertainment industries and music and entertainment industries' educators and affiliated educational institutions;Promote student interests in the music and entertainment industries. Faculty Research Grants MEIEA is proud to offer research grants to eligible educators in order to encourage scholarly research that advances theory, scholarship, and practice in the music and entertainment industries. MEIEA’s specific objectives are to provide academic encouragement and financial incentives for MEIEA members to pursue research and publication that will advance the understanding of music and entertainment industry education and the music and entertainment industry. Research topics might include: Historical or theoretical studies documenting the growth, evolution, or future of the music and entertainment industries or music and entertainment industries education;Curricular innovations and professional standards in music and entertainment industry education;Business models in the music and entertainment industry;Interdisciplinary approaches to the recording industry.Eligibility

Single-investigator applications, as well as applications that include collaboration with other faculty or industry practitioners, are welcome.MEIEA’s expectations for recipients of research grants are:To publish their findings in the MEIEA Journal or other scholarly publications; ORTo make a presentation at MEIEA’s annual conference.Applicant did not receive a MEIEA FRG grant in the past yearIf applicant has received a MEIEA FRG at any time in the past the resulting research must have been published or presented before applying for another MEIEA FRG If the research has not been published or publicly present then the applicant may be eligible if they can demonstrate that a reasonable effort was made.Types of research supported: Research must be:of broad interest to academics or entertainment businessesbroadly applicableTo academia or industryDiscipline focused (e.g., management, production), not specific to one college or classNot a request exclusively for hardware or softwareResearch is on the business side of the industry, not musicGrants may be used to:Pay students and other non-applicants to:Collect dataClean or edit dataAnalyze dataTravel to conduct research, when supported by the application and methodology in the opinion of the committeeResearch based subscriptionsApplicants may receive and are encouraged to apply for other funding as warranted by the scope and nature of the research. You must be a member of this organization to apply for this award - become a member. Institutional or individual members in good standing.Ineligibility
It is MEIEA’s policy that no indirect costs should be requested or deducted from the award.Grant funds may not be used for:Paying any of the applicant’s salary or stipendPaying other faculty a salary or stipendTravel to do research if the information can be obtained electronically or without travelProjects beyond the expertise or capabilities of the researcher(s) (e.g., economic impact studies) as judged by the committee.Projects of scope beyond the budget requested unless additional sources of funding can be demonstrated.Projects that are normally undertaken by other (government or quasi governmental) entities (on a regular basisFocus Areas & Funding Uses
