Extracurricular Activity Scholarships

Geographic Scope: New Albany-Plain Local School District

Eligibility:

  • New Albany-Plain Local School District students

  • Based on demonstrated financial need

  • Objective criteria established by district leaders

  • Family confidentiality maintained throughout process
  • Overview:
    Following the rejection of a 2014 operating-levy request, the school district raised pay-to-participate fees for extracurricular activities. In response, several community families established a fund at the New Albany Community Foundation to provide scholarships for students who qualify based on need.

    Impact:

  • Since program inception, 250+ students have received scholarships

  • Average scholarship: $360 (ranging from $288 to $418)

  • Over 100 students receive scholarships annually

  • Supports participation in both athletics and other extracurricular activities
