Estuary and Salmon Restoration Program (ESRP) - Shore Friendly Grants (WA)
Status: ACTIVE
Funder: Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife (WDFW)
Last Updated: January 02, 2026
Summary
The Estuary and Salmon Restoration Program (ESRP) offers Shore Friendly Grants aimed at restoring beach systems along Puget Sound’s marine shorelines. The program emphasizes the protection and enhancement of coastal ecosystems, specifically targeting the restoration of beaches and bluffs. By utilizing the best available science and social marketing principles, these grants seek to support sustainable improvements in ecosystem functions, thereby enhancing the natural processes and services provided by these vital areas.Overview
The nearshore ecosystem of Puget Sound is a dynamic environment strongly shaped by physical and ecological processes. PSNERP research and findings suggests that projects designed to protect and restore the ecosystem processes that shape and maintain nearshore structure will result in self sustaining improvements in ecosystem functions, goods, and services, thereby justifying our capital investments in nearshore ecosystem projects. The broad restoration objectives of ESRP include: Restore the size and quality of large river delta estuaries and the nearshore processes that deltas support.Restore the number and quality of coastal embayments.Restore the size and quality of beaches and bluffs.Increase understanding of natural process restoration to improve the effectiveness of program actions. This Request for Proposals will address ESRP objective #3: Restore the size and quality of beaches and bluffs. Shore Friendly proposals are being solicited that intentionally focus on restoring beach systems on Puget Sound’s private, marine shorelines using the best available science and social marketing principles.Eligibility
