Equity and Justice Fund - Asylum Seeker Support Grant

Award Amount: $25,000 per organization

Funding Purpose: Support grassroots organizations assisting asylum seekers with critical services in three key areas:

  • Legal services and support

  • Housing support and stability

  • Job training and workforce development

  • Wraparound services

  • Language assistance (ESL classes)

  • Know Your Rights education

  • Case management services
  • Eligible Services Supported:

  • Legal representation and consultation

  • ESL and language instruction

  • Job readiness workshops and culinary training

  • Case management and social services

  • Healthcare and mental health services

  • Housing assistance

  • Resource fairs and community education

  • Interpretation services in multiple languages

  • Medical and mental health care integrated with legal services
  • 2024 Grant Recipients (10 organizations funded):
    1. African International Collaborative Center, Inc (AICC) - ESL and job training
    2. Afrikana - Mobile outreach teams and wraparound services
    3. Arab-American Family Support Center (AAFSC) - ESL, outreach, and essential services
    4. Hondurans Against AIDS - Wraparound services and legal resources connection
    5. Hot Bread Kitchen - Culinary Career Pathways for New New Yorkers program
    6. Mercy Center - Legal assistance, case management, and Adult Education & Workforce Development
    7. Muslim Community Network - New Roots program with Know Your Rights workshops
    8. New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC) - Key to the City (KTTC) coordinated hub program
    9. Safe Passage Project - Trauma-informed interpretation services and legal representation for unaccompanied children
    10. Terra Firma - Holistic program integrating primary healthcare with legal services for unaccompanied migrant children and families
