Environmental Stewardship Awards

Geographic Scope: Gulf Coast region, including Mobile and Baldwin County areas in Alabama

Purpose: To recognize PEP member companies, non-profit organizations, and municipalities whose work has made significant and positive contributions to the Gulf Coast region in three crucial areas: economic growth, environmental health, and social responsibility.

Program Overview:

• Recognizes innovative and unique approaches to solving environmental problems or reducing environmental impacts
• Honors both large and small businesses, non-profit organizations, and municipalities
• Focus on best practices and innovation, not simply overall environmental impact
• Quality, creativity, and commitment are valued

Award Categories:

• Member company awards for innovation in:
  • Environmental remediation and restoration projects
  • Emissions reduction and hazardous waste reduction
  • Water quality improvement and treatment
  • Community partnership and stewardship initiatives
  • Sustainable business practices
  • Employee engagement in environmental stewardship
• Community Partner Award recognizing non-profits and community organizations

• Oyster reef restoration initiatives
• Wastewater treatment innovations
• Downtown revitalization and urban restoration
• Emissions monitoring and reduction systems
• Alternative fuel conversion
• Air and water quality improvement projects
• Volunteer environmental stewardship programs

Eligibility:

• Must be current PEP member company or organization in good standing
• Projects must demonstrate environmental innovation and best practices
• Non-profit organizations and municipalities also eligible

Application Process

Nomination Process:

1. Complete the Nomination Form (available on PEP website)
2. Nominate a member company or your own company
3. No business or project is considered too small
4. Submit nomination by stated deadline

Award Presentation:

• Awards presented at PEP's Annual Membership Meeting (typically in April)
• Winners publicized to local media and community through online and print advertising

Application Requirements:

• Project description demonstrating environmental innovation and best practices
• Explanation of positive contribution to Gulf Coast region
• Examples of quality, creativity, and commitment to environmental stewardship
• Details on how project addresses one or more of three focus areas (economic growth, environmental health, social responsibility)

• Quality of approach and implementation
• Creativity of solution
• Commitment to environmental responsibility
• Significance and positive impact to Gulf Coast region
