Summary
The Environmental Grantmaking Program at the Educational Foundation of America (EFA) aims to support projects that facilitate a transition to a net-zero electricity system. Eligible applicants include 501(c)3 public charities, academic institutions, and government entities committed to sustainable energy solutions.Overview
Note: If you are interested in submitting an idea for a project or program that aligns with the work of EFA’s Environment program, describe your idea in 250 words or less and we will contact you if we decide to move forward with it. EFA’s Environment Program supports multiple strategies to reduce greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere. We focus on the just transition to a net-zero electricity system with an interest in organizations and communities pursuing state and regional carbon emissions reduction strategies. Within the electricity sector, we support upstream market and infrastructure policies related to generation, transmission, and distribution, as well as affordable clean-energy solutions. The program currently has three initiatives: Increasing Access to Affordable Clean Energy in Rural America: This initiative focuses on the energy transition within rural electric cooperatives by boosting civic engagement and increasing access to affordable, clean energy resources.Accelerate Regional and State Transition to a Net-Zero Electricity System: As renewable energy represents an ever-increasing portion of the total electricity generated in the US, our transmission and distribution systems will need to evolve rapidly to mitigate potentially negative social and environmental impacts. This initiative supports partners working to design and implement market-based regulatory approaches and build the interstate transmission necessary for reducing carbon emissions in key states and regions.Strengthen Finance and Investment in the Electric Utilities’ Energy Transition: The financial and investment system that sustains electric power generation is an essential driver of deep decarbonization. This initiative supports partners working to develop utility and finance sector policies and information that bolster and accelerate the transition to a net-zero electricity system.Eligibility
