What We Do Our Mission: To reduce financial barriers to care for underinsured patients with chronic or life-altering diseases. The HealthWell Foundation is a leading independent non-profit dedicated to improving access to health care for America’s underinsured. When health insurance is not enough, we fill the gap by assisting with copays, premiums, deductibles and out-of-pocket expenses. In 2024, we awarded more than $1.2 billion in grants through our Disease Funds, and since 2004 we have helped more than 1,100,000 patients afford essential treatments and medications. HealthWell is recognized as one of America’s most efficient charities — 100 percent of every dollar donated goes directly to patient grants and services. We provide financial assistance to help with: Prescription copaysHealth insurance premiums, deductibles and coinsurancePediatric treatment costsTravel costsBehavioral health services Our Vision: To ensure that no patient goes without health care because they cannot afford it. Emergency/Medical Workers Behavioral Health Fund About the Behavioral Health Fund As the COVID-19 health care crisis status changed from a national health care emergency on May 11, 2023, we recognize that emergency workers (police officers, firefighters, and first responders) also suffer immense trauma and anxiety while carrying out their respective roles. To address the unmet needs of the dedicated men and women who place the safety of those they serve above all else, we have broadened the fund to ensure they have access to the critical behavioral health services they need without worrying about how to afford them. Through the fund, HealthWell will assist emergency and medical workers in covering their out-of-pocket treatment-related copayments for prescription drugs, counseling services, psychotherapy, and transportation needed to manage behavioral health issues. Fund Definition Assistance with the cost of prescription drugs, counseling services, cognitive behavioral therapy, and transportation needed to treat or manage behavioral health issues affecting emergency and medical workers.
