Overview

About Tree Canada We’re a registered charity proudly dedicated to planting and nurturing trees. For 25 years, we’ve engaged communities, governments, corporations and individuals in the pursuit of a greener and healthier living environment for Canadians. Since 1992, we’ve planted more than 82 million trees, greened more than 660 schoolyards, helped restore places hit by natural disasters and brought together urban forestry experts greening cities all across Canada. Edible Trees Grant Tree Canada’s Edible Trees program reconnects people back to their local food sources and builds community. Helping Canadians access healthy food Studies suggest that approximately 1 in 12 Canadians have experienced food insecurity, or in other words, the lack of access to the variety or quantity of food needed due to lack of money. The inability to access healthy and nutritious food is often reported alongside poor health, multiple chronic conditions, long-term physical and mental disabilities, and major depression. By planting edible trees and shrubs, those that produce fruits, nuts, seeds, berries and pods that suit human taste, we reconnect people back to their local food sources and build community. Tree Canada supports community-based projects throughout Canada, such as those with educational institutions, First Nations communities, municipalities, community groups or gardens, food banks and community housing projects. From community gardens in Victoria, BC to foraging walls in Charlottetown, PEI Tree Canada is committed to providing the support and resources needed for planting edible trees and shrubs in communities across Canada. Since 2012, Tree Canada and its sponsors have completed over 279 Edible Trees projects and planted over 21,900 fruit and nut trees in communities across Canada.
