Overview
The Association of Field Ornithologists awards Bergstrom Memorial Research Grants of up to $1,500 each; typically five are awarded annually. They promote question-driven field studies of birds (natural history, ecology, conservation), with special consideration for avian life history, avocational-collected data, and bird-banding/marking. Eligibility is restricted to individuals based in the U.S. and Canada (students who are Bachelor's/Master's candidates and individuals outside academia); study location may be anywhere. The applicant and/or their research supervisor must be an AFO member at the time of application; applicants with large government research grants are ineligible.
How to Apply
Review the AFO Research Guidelines, then apply via the Bergstrom Grants page. AFO membership (applicant or supervisor) required.
