Dr. D. Walter Cohen Teaching Award Grant

The Dr. D. Walter Cohen Teaching Award, provided by the American Academy of Periodontology, offers a $10,000 grant to support new periodontal educators. This funding aims to facilitate their entry into teaching and research careers in periodontal education. Eligible candidates must be in their third year of an accredited periodontal post-doctoral training program in the U.S. and demonstrate a strong commitment to education and research in this field.

What is awarded?
Created to assist beginning periodontal educators in launching their career, one payment of $10,000 is awarded in the fourth quarter of the year after the AAP Annual Meeting. The award should be considered a supplement to any salary, stipend or research support.
What are the qualifications?
A strong interest in periodontal education is the primary qualification. In addition, the selected candidates must demonstrate excellent character, integrity, a record of academic and personal achievements, and an aptitude for teaching and research.

Eligibility

Award candidates must be in their third year of a nonmilitary accredited periodontal post-doctoral training program in the United States as of the application deadline, and intend to pursue a career in full-time periodontal teaching and research in the United States.

Ineligibility

The award is not to be used to replace support that would have normally been provided by the recipient's institution.
