Dr. Alan M. Gewirtz Memorial Scholarship – Postdoctoral Fellows and Junior Industrial Professionals Grant

The Dr. Alan M. Gewirtz Memorial Scholarship, established by the Oligonucleotide Therapeutics Society, honors the contributions of new scientists in oligonucleotide therapeutics. This scholarship, created in 2011 and expanded in 2020, awards $2,000 and offers complimentary registration to the OTS Annual Meeting, where recipients present their research. It is aimed at postdoctoral fellows and junior industrial professionals, emphasizing the importance of innovation in this critical field.

The Dr. Alan M. Gewirtz Memorial Scholarships support outstanding new scientists and recognizes their contributions in the field of oligonucleotide therapeutics. Dr. Gewirtz was very influential in the field of oligonucleotides as well as in the establishment of the society. His passing in November 2010 inspired the society to create the scholarship in his honor. OTS created the Dr. Alan M. Gewirtz Memorial Scholarship in 2011 as a tribute to his life and work.
To meet to growth of the society and the field of oligonucleotide therapeutics, OTS instated a second scholarship in 2020 to support new scientists from the graduate to junior professional level; two awards are given annually.

Be a current member of OTSBe a current postdoctoral fellow or junior industrial professionalEligibility is limited to the first 5 years of active research after receiving the PhD or MD degreeBe active in research at the time the award is givenAttend the current year’s Annual Meeting and present a 15-minute short talk on their researchPrior winners are not eligible
