DOGANA Lifetime Achievement Award

Organization: DOGANA (Dow Graduates Association of North America), a 501(c)(3) non-profit alumni organization

Geographic Scope: Candidates must be graduates of Dow Medical College (DMC) or Dow International Medical College (DIMC); award presented annually at APPNA Summer Convention

Purpose: Recognize an individual who has made major scientific contributions to medical science OR provided profound philanthropic service to Dow Medical College, Civil Hospital Karachi, or DIMC over an extended period of time, serving as a role model.

• Frequency: One award presented annually
• Presentation: Announced and presented at APPNA Summer Convention
• Committee Chair: Dr. Irfan Aslam
• Committee Members: Dr. Zia Moiz (Advisor), Dr. Mansoor Mohiuddin, Dr. Amin Karim, Dr. Mohammad Riaz

Eligibility Criteria

Basic Requirements:

Graduate of DMC or DIMC at least 10 years prior to nomination

Professional-academic contribution OR philanthropic services to DMC, DIMC, or Civil Hospital Karachi for over 15 years

Must meet EITHER professional-academic OR philanthropic-services criteria

Professional-Academic Criteria (must meet 3 of the following):

Professorial position on faculty of well-recognized academic institution in any country

At least 6 research publications in refereed journals

Member of research society in appropriate discipline

Editorship and/or service on editorial board of major journals

Recognition from peers (fellowships, research or publication awards)

Service on major government commissions, task forces, or boards

Evidence of exceptional activity in patient care, facilitating establishment of centers of excellence

Philanthropic-Services Criteria (any of the following):

Lifelong work in philanthropic services to DMC, DIMC, and CHK

Established welfare services, social services, or facilities in spirit of giving back to Dow and CHK

Substantial contribution in furthering Dow alumni community in Pakistan, USA, or abroad

Lifelong activity in patient care, facilitating establishment of services for patients at DMC, DIMC, and/or Civil Hospital Karachi

Selection Process

1. Award committee evaluates all nominations 2. Winner decided by majority vote of committee, approved by Central Council 3. Only one individual selected per year 4. Unsuccessful nominees carry forward for next two years automatically 5. No award given in years when committee deems no nominee worthy
