Decade of Design: The AIA Urban and Regional Solutions Challenge - Design and Health

Funder: American Institute of Architects (AIA), in partnership with Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) and Clinton Global Initiative (CGI)

Overview: A long-term commitment to engage architecture schools and other stakeholders in research addressing complex challenges facing urban, suburban, and rural communities in the United States and beyond. The first topic area focuses on design and health.

Focus Areas:

  • Research projects documenting positive impact of design interventions on health

  • Solutions based on past successes that can be readily implemented

  • Integration of design with health outcomes
  • Geographic Scope: United States and beyond

    Eligibility:

  • Architecture schools and stakeholders

  • Faculty, students, and practitioners

  • Projects must actively engage community stakeholders to ensure design solutions are appropriate for the communities in which they will occur
  • Award Structure:

  • Up to $40,000 in total grants available

  • Maximum of $20,000 for any single project

  • Multiple projects can be funded
  • Background: Part of a 10-year commitment by the AIA to develop solutions for complex quality of life challenges. The program encourages active engagement with communities to ensure proposed design solutions are tailored to local needs.
