David Steflik Memorial Student Research Grants

Eligibility:

  • Dental students in post-graduate and residency programs

  • Funding Amount: Up to $7,000 USD per project

  • Grant Period: Up to 2 years

  • Travel Reimbursement: Starting in 2026, successful applicants have the opportunity to attend the AAID Annual Conference and present project findings, with reimbursement for travel costs up to $1,500 USD
  • Focus Areas:
    Research in implant dentistry, including but not limited to:

  • Feasibility studies for larger research projects

  • Development and testing of new techniques and procedures

  • Small clinical or animal research projects

  • Data analysis projects
  • Background:
    Named after Dr. Steflik, who was a Researcher and Professor at the Medical College of Georgia since 1979, serving as Professor of Surgery and Director of Research for Orthopedic Surgery. He was also Professor of cell biology-anatomy in the School of Graduate Studies and held an appointment at the Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center. Dr. Steflik's research on tissue responses to implanted biomaterials led to breakthroughs in dental implantology.

    - Travel reimbursement for AAID conference attendance (up to $1,500 USD)

    5. Non-Allowable Expenses:
    - Purchase of large pieces of equipment
    - Indirect costs (administrative salaries, office supplies or equipment, laptops, general travel unless for AAID conference presentation)
    - Accounting and legal services
