Overview

Dance Touring Initiative (DTI)

Funder: South Arts Inc (with funding from National Endowment for the Arts)

Geographic Scope: Nine-state region in the Southeast (Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and additional states)

Purpose: Competitive and intensive three-year program supporting performing arts presenters throughout the South to develop rich selections of modern dance and contemporary ballet performances, workshops, and audience engagement activities

Program Duration: Three-year intensive program

Support Provided:

  • Professional development for arts presenters

  • Residency planning visits with artistic directors from major national dance companies

  • Financial support for educational programming and public performances

  • Access to network and learning community among dance presenters
  • Key Details:

  • Connects audiences with touring modern dance and contemporary ballet companies

  • First two cycles connected over 30,000 audience members throughout the South

  • Third cohort (announced 2015) included 10 new arts presenters

  • Total of 26 active arts presenters in initiative as network and learning community

  • Enables organizations to expand community partnerships

  • Helps develop larger and stronger audience bases
