Culture & Animals Foundation Grant

The Culture & Animals Foundation Grant supports creative and scholarly projects that enhance the understanding of human-animal relationships and animal rights. Grants range from a few hundred to several thousand dollars, with funding available for research, creativity, and performance projects. Applicants from any country are encouraged to apply, although priority is given to new applicants. Notably, grants do not cover ongoing organizational support or projects focused solely on animal rescue.

Note: CAF accepts proposals from January 1 to January 31 of each year.
Our Grants
The Culture & Animals Foundation (CAF) provides annual grants to scholars and artists using their intellect, creativity, and compassion to build a deeper understanding of human–animal relationships and a greater respect for animal rights. Academic and artistic projects will be considered in three categories:

• Research: Scholarly projects about animal advocacy and its cultural roots and impact;
• Creativity: Original work by artists and thinkers that expresses positive concern for animals.
• Performance: Public performances and exhibitions, including the products of our research and creative grants, to raise awareness of animal advocacy.
• Grant Amount

Individual grants normally are awarded in amounts ranging from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. In some rare cases, CAF may elect to award partial funding to a grant applicant, which would cover a portion of the requested amount.
CAF encourages applicants to apply for funding from other organizations, both before and after applying for a CAF grant, if the project scope and budget require. CAF only awards grants for projects. CAF can provide support for salaries to complete applicant’s projects.

Eligibility

CAF accepts grant applications from any country.CAF does provide grants for documentary films and videos, but given the costs associated with both, applicants should show they have raised most of the money in advance of applying to CAF.Past recipients are welcome to apply again for funding of a new endeavor or continued development of a previously funded project.However, priority for funding will be given to new applicants.

Ineligibility

CAF does not provide ongoing budgetary support for organizations or individuals.CAF does not fund:

• “hands-on” projects, including animal rescue, public protest or trap-neuter-release programs;
• species conservation projects, unless they include a commitment to animal rights and aspects of creativity, performance, or research;
• projects that consist entirely of attending or speaking at a conference or conferences;
• book production (CAF does support research and writing);

indirect costs: no portion of a CAF grant may be used for “administrative costs,” “overhead,” or any other form of indirect cost.CAF does not accept grant applications for multiple projects.
