About the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation Founded by Craig H. Neilsen, the Foundation is the largest private funder of spinal cord injury research, rehabilitation, clinical training, and programmatic support in the U.S. and Canada. Working with our grantees to make the world a better place for those affected by SCI. Community Support Grants Harnessing the power of collaboration to increase independence for all individuals living with SCI, the Creating Opportunity & Independence (CO&I) portfolio supports non-profit organizations providing programs and services that are community-driven, empowering, and inclusive of all ages and backgrounds to enhance the quality of life. This funding underwrites specific projects, ongoing programs, and/or capacity building with a specific focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion within their organization and in the communities they serve. Community Support Grants are for one or two years. Portfolio Objectives Support community integration, participation and independence for individuals living with SCI Remove barriers and promote access Increase health and wellness in rehabilitation, through transitional stages, and in the community Promote self-efficacy Address diverse regional needs and available resources Funding Funding is annual for up to two years; requested budgets must be from $25,000–$200,000. The budget for any year cannot exceed $125,000. Requests outside of this range will not be considered.
