Summary

The Community Support Grant, offered by the Community Action Partnership of Staunton, Augusta, and Waynesboro (CAPSAW), is designed to empower low- and moderate-income residents through innovative programs. NOTE: All proposals must be received by the dates indicated above. Requests will be reviewed until funding has been allocated. IF there is an emergency need, please contact CAPSAW staff to request an expedited review. Community Action Partnership of Staunton, Augusta, and Waynesboro (CAPSAW) Mission: We support local organizations that empower low-income individuals and families. We strengthen our community by distributing public funds and providing guidance to programs that effectively address the challenges of poverty. Vision: Economic security for every resident of Staunton, Augusta County, and Waynesboro is attainable through a coordinated network of innovative and collaborative services. Community Action Promise: Community Action changes people's lives, embodies the spirit of hope, improves communities and makes America a better place to live. We are about the entire community and we are dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other. Community Support Grant Community Support Grant funds must be used by programs principally impacting low- and moderate-income residents of Staunton, Augusta County and/or Waynesboro. Successful projects will be responsive to the areas of need identified through the 2024 CAPSAW Needs Assessment report as well as the Mission of CAPSAW. Funding is provided by the City of Staunton, Augusta County, and the City of Waynesboro. Funding Agencies currently under contract with CAPSAW may request a maximum of $1,000. Agencies not current grantees of CAPSAW may request a maximum of $2,000.

Eligibility

Eligibility is limited to existing 501 (C) 3 nonprofits or local government organizations providing services to low- and moderate-income residents of Staunton, Augusta County and/or Waynesboro.If an application is submitted by faith-based organizations, outreach efforts and service delivery must be conducted regardless of program beneficiary faith affiliation. Programs and services may not be marketed or offered exclusively to members of the sponsoring organization’s religious affiliation or denomination. Activities must be delivered from a location that is accessible to all potential beneficiaries or an alternative means of service delivery to people with disabilities must be identified.

Ineligibility

What can funds NOT be used for?Funds cannot be used for debt payment, fundraising, or political advocacy work.Multiple applications in one fiscal year from the same organization and/or similar requests submitted over multiple years are discouraged. Programs and services may not be marketed or offered exclusively to members of the sponsoring organization’s religious affiliation or denomination.
