Description:
The Colgate-Palmolive Grant for Alternative Research will identify and support efforts that promote, develop, refine, or validate scientifically acceptable animal alternative methods to facilitate the safety assessment of new chemicals and formulations. Scientists at any stage of career progression may submit a proposal. High priority will be given to projects that use in vitro or non-animal models in one of the following research areas:

1. reproductive and developmental toxicology;
2. neurotoxicology;
3. systemic toxicology;
4. sensitization; or
5. acute toxicity.

This award consists of a plaque and a maximum cash award of $40,000, provided as a single lump sum payment, and awardees can apply for funding again.
Criteria for award:

Applicant:

* Applicants will be assessed based on their capacity to conduct the described research.
* Applicants must work in an established laboratory or have access to a laboratory capable of performing the research detailed in the submission, and applicants will be evaluated based on level of training, experience, and competence commensurate with proposed research.
* The quality of past scientific publications will also be considered.
* Applicants do not have to be a current member of the Society of Toxicology (although if the applicant is selected to receive the award and is not a member, the awardee will apply).

The project must clearly lie within the primary research areas defined, must have potential for advancing the field of study, and must be determined to have a future impact on experiments involving animals and the method replaces the use of animals in research.

The research plan will be evaluated based on its scientific quality and originality, the feasibility of the objectives, and the appropriateness and efficiency of the budget.

* body of the proposal (not to exceed six pages).
