Code Blue

Program Overview: Code Blue was developed in 1999 to help rural Alaskan communities fund essential EMS equipment and patient transportation needs.

Geographic Scope: Rural Alaskan communities

Funding Sources: State, federal, local government and private foundation funding partnership including USDA-Rural Development, State of Alaska, Rasmuson Foundation, Denali Commission, local communities, borough governments, and regional offices.

What They Fund:

• EMS equipment replacement
• Patient transportation vehicles (ASAP 911, ambulance, snowbulance, etc.)
• Equipment for struggling volunteer services

Required Documentation:

• Annual EMS Survey (required for all funding applications)
• For patient transport vehicles: shipping solution with cost estimate to your location must be included
• Vendor estimates should include inflationary price increases (funds may not be available for nearly a year after application)

Application Process

1. Complete Annual EMS Survey (required before applying)
2. Download both instructions and application from program page
3. Read instructions carefully - application requirements may change yearly
4. For vehicle requests: Include shipping solution with cost estimate to your location
5. Account for inflation: Have vendors build inflationary increases into estimates
6. Submit application by deadline
