Amount: US $100,000 - US $300,000
Last Updated: August 10, 2025

Summary

The Climate Impacts and Adaptation Research (PON 6034) program, funded by NYSERDA, aims to enhance community resilience in New York State while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. With a budget of $1.3 million, it supports projects addressing vulnerabilities in underreported populations, indoor air quality, compound events, and climate projections. The program encourages collaboration and requires a minimum of 25% cost-sharing, facilitating the development of critical adaptation strategies to combat the impacts of climate change.

Overview

New York State recognizes the need to increase the resiliency of communities across the state while also reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Climate change is a challenging energy-related environmental issue, as the potential adverse impacts are significant and far reaching. New York State (NYS) has made a substantial commitment to characterizing the information gaps and resiliency and adaptation needs under future climate conditions through initiatives such as New York’s Extreme Heat Action Plan and the New York State Climate Impacts Assessment (NYSCIA). Filling these information gaps will help to inform State-level policies and initiatives, such as the State’s Adaptation and Resilience Plan currently under development, as well as the development of vulnerability assessments and resilience plans by entities like electric utilities and municipalities across the state. $1,300,000 is available through this PON for projects in four categories: Gap analysis for underreported vulnerable populationsData and information gaps for indoor air quality and climate changeCompound eventsAdvancing the development of ice, wind, and deluge projections. A single award is anticipated in each of Categories A, B, and C. Multiple awards may be made in Category D. Proposal funding caps for individual categories are listed in the category descriptions in Section II. Costsharing of at least 25% is required. Leveraging of other research funding is strongly encouraged. In-kind cost-sharing is acceptable.
