Lindback, excellence in education is celebrated through the foundation that bears their names. Since 1961, the foundation has been recognizing outstanding faculty members at colleges and universities in Pennsylvania and New Jersey with the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching. Currently 52 institutions of higher learning are participating in the program. The award is mentioned proudly and prominently in the curriculum vitae of Lindback Award recipients, attesting to the universal prestige associated with the honor. The Foundation also partners with the School District of Philadelphia to honor exemplary public school teachers and principals with awards that include monetary stipends. Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Foundation Grant The Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Foundation discretionary grants are awarded primarily to support excellence in education and to assist distressed individuals in the City of Philadelphia, with a particular focus on the Greater Philadelphia area including South Jersey. The Foundation was established by a testamentary gift under the will of Christian R. Lindback, former president and owner of Abbotts Dairies, Inc., and his wife Mary F. Lindback. Generally speaking, the Trustees of the Lindback Foundation make discretionary grants for the initiation or support of the following:For projects within the limits of the Greater Philadelphia areaA project which can reasonably be expected to be accomplished by a single grant in a relatively brief period of timeNew proposals accepted once per calendar year. In the case of an ongoing multi-year grant, a successful applicant must wait until the multi-year grant has been completed.Ineligibility
THE FOUNDATION DOES NOT, EXCEPT IN THE RAREST INSTANCES, MAKE GRANTS: For projects beyond the limits of the Greater Philadelphia area.For ordinary operating expenses.For medical or scientific research.For projects for the construction, renovation or acquisition of physical facilities (real estate or buildings; or equipment or supplies, except in cases where the equipment or supplies are merely incidental to the primary purposes of the project).For projects which will likely entail grants from the Foundation beyond a period of three years or which may not reasonably be expected to be self-supporting thereafter.To applicants respectively year after year.
