Overview

Background Established through the Daniel and Barbara Chapman Trust, the Chapman Prize recognizes and honors each year the efforts and achievements of individuals and organizations in the U.S. who make significant contributions to American society. The award will focus on a different theme each year, selected from the following: Health & Wellness, Arts & Culture, Economic Prosperity, or Educational Success. 2025 Theme: Economic Prosperity Awarded to a charitable individual or organization that has contributed most significantly to the improvement of economic prosperity in the United States. By way of example, contributions may include creating safe and affordable housing, effective workforce development, social entrepreneurship programs, and/or financial literacy programs to build thriving, sustainable communities. FundingApproximately $100,000 will be awarded each year.

GENERAL OVERVIEW

efforts and achievements of charitable organiza@ons and individuals who make innova@ve and significant contribu@ons
to society
▪ Applicants must meet all of the following requirements (please read thoroughly to confirm eligibility before applying):
1. ☐ Are either a U.S. ci@zen or U.S.-based nonprofit who will use the disbursement exclusively in the U.S.
2. ☐ Have been conduc@ng charitable work for at least three years (based off of date on IRS determina@on leQer)
3. ☐ Can show demonstrated impact in the selected focus area of the year in which the applica@on is submiQed
▪ Successful applicants should describe:
o Breadth of impact, including geographic presence (must operate across mul@ple states)
o Role as change agent
o Collabora@on among partners
o Diversity of beneficiaries and Board/staff/volunteer representa@on, if applicable
o Sustainability of the project and poten@al for long term change in the award focus area
o Proven record of achievement and extraordinary contribu@ons towards beQerment in the selected area
▪ The Chapman Prize award is normally between $80,000 - $100,000
IMPORTANT DATES
▪ The applica@on period is open between June and September
o This year, the Prize applica@on period will open June 14th, 2024 with applica6ons due by September 30th, 2024
▪ The selec@on commiQee will begin reviewing applica@ons by October 14th, 2024
▪ The selec@on commiQee will complete the review process by November 15th, 2024
▪ All applicants, regardless of award status, will be no@fied of the selec@on commiQee’s decision by December 1st, 2024
▪ The 2024 Prize Winner will receive the award by December 31st, 2024
ANNUAL PRIZE THEME
▪ Applicants must prove the relevance of their work to the pre-selected prize focus, which will alternate annually between
the following:
o Health & Wellness* – Awarded to a charitable individual or organiza@on who has contributed most significantly
to the improvement of health and wellness in the United States. By way of example, contribu@ons may include
providing access to quality and affordable health care, ini@a@ves that empower individuals to develop ac@ve,
healthy lifestyles that begin in childhood and con@nue through all phases of life, and/or programs that promote
healthy environments in homes, schools, and neighborhoods.
o Arts & Culture – Awarded to a charitable individual or organiza@on who has contributed most significantly to
the improvement of cultural life and/or significantly aided the growth and availability of the arts in the United
States. By way of example, contribu@ons may include programs bringing arts to underserved communi@es and
popula@ons, programs crea@ng opportuni@es for the arts and ar@sts to thrive, and/or programs that use the arts
to build bridges and partnerships.
o Economic Prosperity – Awarded to a charitable individual or organiza@on who has contributed most significantly
to the improvement of economic prosperity in the United States. By way of example, contribu@ons may include
crea@ng safe and affordable housing, effec@ve workforce development, social entrepreneurship programs, and/
or financial literacy programs to build thriving, sustainable communi@es.
o Educa6onal Success – Awarded to a charitable individual or organiza@on who has contributed most significantly
to the improvement of students' long-term educa@onal advancement and/or career prepara@on in the United

suppor@ve school environments and posi@ve behavioral developments, programs that create digital age learning
