Grants

The gifts of many generous people allow the Community Foundation to award grants to nonprofit organizations for charitable projects and programs that address today’s needs and prepare for tomorrow’s challenges.

These grants are focused on meeting the needs of the people in DeKalb County, Indiana. Grants are awarded based on the charitable objectives of the donors who established the funds.

Grants are also available for general operating expenses or capacity building of organizations that address local charitable needs.

An Operational Support Grant from the Community Foundation intends to fund an organization's general operation expenses and overhead costs.

Eligibility

* The Foundation awards grants to organizations with 501(c)3 charitable designation, local schools, and government agencies.
* The Geographic Area We Serve:
* DeKalb County, Indiana
* The Community Foundation awards grants to religious organizations for charitable purposes but does not award grants for religious purposes.
* The Community Foundation of DeKalb County (Indiana) awards grants to support many types of charitable organizations.
* If your organization is not a public charity, please contact us to verify your eligibility for a grant.

Ineligibility

* The following are low priority and unlikely to receive funding:
* Requests over $5,000 (contact the Foundation to discuss before applying if your need is for a larger amount)
* Projects where Community Foundation DeKalb County is the sole funder (particularly applicable to requests over $5,000)Reduction of debt
* Travel
* Requests from organizations that have an open Quarterly Grant file (i.e. an unfiled final report)
* Repeat funding for the same program/project, or operational support
* Matching funds
* The Community Foundation will not consider grants for:
* Individuals
* Political activities or those designated to influence legislation
* National organizations (unless the monies are to be used solely to benefit citizens of DeKalb County)
* Fund-raising projects
* The direct benefit of the donor or the donor’s family
* Religious organizations for the sole purpose of furthering that religion
* Capital campaigns
* The Community Foundation does not tend to fund operating expenses repeatedly.
