Summary
The Centralized Otolaryngology Research Efforts (CORE) Grants, supported by the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Foundation and the American Neurotology Society, aim to promote research in otolaryngology. The Herbert Silverstein Otology/Neurotology Research Award specifically funds clinical or translational projects focused on auditory and vestibular disorders among new academic surgeons. With over 800 grants awarded since 1985, CORE enhances research collaboration and reduces fragmentation in the field.Overview
AAO-HNS Foundation The AAO-HNS Foundation works to advance the art, science, and ethical practice of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery through education, research, and quality measurement. The American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, Inc. (AAO-HNS), and its foundation, the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery Foundation, Inc. (AAO-HNSF), are two separate and independent organizations, each incorporated in the District of Columbia. The Foundation is a non-profit, educational organization, designated as a 501(c)(3) association by the IRS. The Academy is designated as a 501(c)(6) non-profit association by the IRS. Centralized Otolaryngology Research Efforts (CORE) Grants The Centralized Otolaryngology Research Efforts (CORE) grants program is a collaboration of several societies and industry supporters focused on providing support for research in the field of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. Since 1985, CORE has awarded more than 800 grants and more than $14 million for research projects, research training, and career development to further the specialty of otolaryngology. These grants, ranging in award size from $5,000 to $150,000, have been essential for increasing the research base for otolaryngology. The CORE program brings greater scale and less fragmentation and overlap to otolaryngology-head and neck surgery research opportunities, reduces the aggregate costs of the individual grant programs, and enables a comprehensive overview of the spectrum of promising otolaryngology and head and neck surgery research/researchers to promote to NIH and other agencies. Centralized Otolaryngology Research Efforts (CORE) Grants: ANS/AAO-HNSF Herbert Silverstein Otology/Neurotology Research Award Purpose The purpose of the Herbert Silverstein Otology/Neurotology Research Award, which is jointly sponsored by the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Foundation (AAOHNSF) and the American Neurotology Society (ANS), is to support a clinical or translational research project focused on diseases, disorders, or conditions of the peripheral or central auditory and/or vestibular system among new full-time academic surgeons. The award is intended as a preliminary step in clinical investigator career development and is expected to facilitate the recipient’s preparation of a more comprehensive individualized research plan suitable for submission to the National Institutes of Health or comparable funding agency.Eligibility
