Overview

Carl Bivens Memorial Scholarship

Overview: A scholarship established in honor of Carl Bivens, a Montrose resident and band director from Oklahoma who graduated from North Eastern State University (NESU).

Geographic Scope: NESU (North Eastern State University) in Tahlequah, Oklahoma

Eligible Applicants: Students attending North Eastern State University (NESU)

Purpose: The scholarship is designed to support students with a full, educational experience. Unlike traditional scholarships, funds do not have to be used specifically for books, tuition, or housing. Mr. Bivens envisioned the money being used as "pocket money" or funds that can help support social experiences as well as academic learning.

Background: Mr. Carl Bivens graduated from Claremore High School in Oklahoma and from NESU. He taught as a band director in Oklahoma for 25 years. He believed his education at NESU gave him a wonderful life. He was a Montrose resident until his passing in 2020.
