Caritas Reads! Summer Program

Overview: The Caritas Reads! Summer Program encourages elementary to high school-aged residents to read during their summer break to prevent "summer slide" and foster a love of reading.

Geographic Scope: California (Caritas communities)

Target Population: Elementary to high school-aged residents of Caritas communities

Program Details:

  • Participants choose their own books at no cost

  • Upon completing a book and submitting a book report, readers can select additional books

  • Program runs throughout the summer

  • Winners are recognized in each community
  • Program Results (Historical):

  • 2019: Distributed over 1,590 books to 235 readers

  • 2020: Distributed 1,000+ books to 172 readers
