Overview
The Caritas Reads! Summer Program encourages elementary to high school-aged residents to read during their summer break to prevent "summer slide" and foster a love of reading.
Geographic Scope: California (Caritas communities)
Target Population: Elementary to high school-aged residents of Caritas communities
Program Details:
- Participants choose their own books at no cost
- Upon completing a book and submitting a book report, readers can select additional books
- Program runs throughout the summer
- Winners are recognized in each community
Program Results (Historical):
- 2019: Distributed over 1,590 books to 235 readers
- 2020: Distributed 1,000+ books to 172 readers
