CARA Award for Excellence in Teaching Grant

The CARA Award for Excellence in Teaching is presented by the Medieval Academy of America to recognize outstanding teaching in medieval studies. Established to honor innovative course development and exemplary pedagogical practices, the award aims to support educators at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Each year, two awards, valued at $500 each, are conferred during the Academy's Annual Meeting, emphasizing the importance of high-quality teaching in the field.

Medieval Academy of America
The Academy publishes the quarterly journal Speculum; awards prizes, grants, and fellowships; and supports research, publication, and teaching in medieval art, archaeology, history, law, literature, music, philosophy, religion, science, social and economic institutions, and all other aspects of the Middle Ages.
The CARA Award for Excellence in Teaching Medieval Studies recognizes outstanding pedagogical achievement by Medieval Academy members. This can include:
teaching inspiring courses at the undergraduate or graduate levels;creating innovative teaching materials (including textbooks);developing courses and curricula;scholarship of teaching and learning (including presentations at conferences as well as publications)support for K-12 pedagogy and curricula;community-oriented or publicly-directed educational initiatives.
Normally, one award will be given for undergraduate teaching, and one for graduate teaching. These awards of $500 are presented at the Annual Meeting of the Medieval Academy.

Ineligibility

Please note that the CARA Chair, as well as members of the CARA Executive Committee, are not eligible to receive any CARA award or grant during their terms of office.
