Medieval Academy: Travel Grants

The Medieval Academy of America offers travel grants to support its members with PhDs who lack institutional funding for conference attendance. Grants prioritize major national and international meetings, with awards up to $500 for North American travel and $750 for overseas. Applicants must be current Academy members, and grants are limited to one per applicant every three years. Early applications are accepted, but funding is contingent upon paper acceptance and presentation evidence.

NOTE: Explanation of Deadlines -
1 May for meetings to be held between 1 September and 15 February.1 November for meetings to be held between 16 February and 31 August.
The academy publishes the quarterly journal Speculum, and awards prizes, grants, and fellowships.
The Medieval Academy provides a limited number of travel grants to help Academy members who hold PhDs but have no access to institutional travel funding, attend conferences to present their work. Exceptions to the PhD requirement may be made for unaffiliated or contingent scholars who are active in Medieval Studies.
Although time constraints may require an initial application before a paper has been accepted, travel grants will not normally be awarded without evidence that the paper actually will be given (such as a photocopy of the relevant part of the program).
Funding
Awards to support travel in North America are up to $500; for overseas travel the awards are up to $750.

Eligibility

Applicants must hold the Ph.D. degree and must be current members of the Medieval Academy.Grants will be limited to one per applicant in a three-year period.
