Summary

Overview

Canine Health Pre-Proposals The mission of Morris Animal Foundation is to bridge science and resources to advance the health of animals. To achieve this mission, we fund hypothesis-driven, humane research projects with high scientific merit and the potential for significant impact. We are a nonprofit organization funded by public support from individuals, corporations, clubs, foundations, and earnings from our endowed funds. Our donors are interested in funding research that results in impactful animal health achievements and benefits both scientific and non-scientific stakeholders including veterinarians, companion animal owners and communities. Prep-proposal Objectives This request for pre-proposals is focused on open-topic canine health and welfare in addition to the following funding opportunity and special interests. A special funding opportunity, the Kelsey Stuart Golden Retriever Lifetime Study (GRLS) Research Funding, is available through a gift from longtime Foundation supporter Nan Stuart. This funding supports Established Investigator proposals that use GRLS samples and/or data to study canine health, with emphasis on cancer, aging and longevity, in recognition of Kelsey’s lasting contribution to veterinary research.Another area of interest is proposals that leverage Purina DISHAA survey data collected a part of the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study.Using GRLS data and/or samples is encouraged for all pre-proposals, but specifically required for the Kelsey Stuart Golden Retriever Lifetime Study Research Funding. Information about Study specimens and data can be found here: Golden Retriever Lifetime Study | Bette M. Morris Data Commons & Biorepository. If the applicant proposes using GRLS samples in the research, the applicant must complete and send this form to datateam@morrisanimalfoundation.org prior to planning your study proposal to ensure adequate sample type(s) and volume are available. The deadline to submit the form is a minimum of one week prior to RFP closing. Proposals requesting samples and/or data in which the PI has not coordinated with our team before submission may result in the proposal being declined. To ensure we fund only the most impactful research, successful pre-proposals will: Identify a well-defined animal health needDemonstrate collaboration with key stakeholders before, during, and after the projectDescribe a clear strategy for achieving meaningful outcomes
