The California National Archery in the Schools Program (CalNASP) Equipment Grant provides essential archery equipment to California schools, supporting students in grades 4-12. Managed by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, this program encourages physical education through certified instructors. Eligible applicants include public, private, and charter schools aiming to implement the California Scholastic Archery Program (CSAP). Equipment grants are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, fostering an engaging learning environment while promoting archery as a recognized educational activity.

Overview

NOTE: Applications are accepted from April 15 - January 1. Allocations of equipment begin on August 1 and continue until all available equipment grants have been distributed per fiscal year. Equipment kits will generally be provided on a first-come, first-served basis; however, if there are insufficient monies to fund all applications, CDFW reserves the right to rank applicants according to need and other criteria solely in the discretion of CDFW. Background The National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) is an international-style archery program taught by teachers and delivered to students in physical education classes in grades 4-12. In many states, the program is adopted and administered by state wildlife agencies. In California, the program (CalNASP) is administered by CDFW in consultation with the California Department of Education. Teachers are trained by volunteer archery instructors to become NASP certified. Classes are offered as an in-person (eight hours) or a hybrid (four hours online, four hours in-person) options. Equipment Grant The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), through the aid of federal monies, provides a designated number of elementary, middle and high schools with archery equipment for participation in the department’s scholastic target archery program CSAP. The equipment stays with the school as long as the school continues to stay in good standing with the program and utilizes the equipment. Archery kits are estimated to cost $3,800 each.
