BVRMC Foundation Nursing Scholarship

Geographic Scope:

• Permanent residents of Buena Vista County or adjoining counties (Ida, Sac, Pocahontas, Clay, or Cherokee)
• Students enrolled in nursing at Iowa Central Community College–Storm Lake campus or Buena Vista University

Focus Areas: Nursing education

Eligibility Requirements:

• Be a permanent resident of Buena Vista County or adjoining county of Ida, Sac, Pocahontas, Clay, or Cherokee OR be a student enrolled in nursing at Iowa Central Community College–Storm Lake campus or Buena Vista University
• Have completed at least one year of pre-nursing education at an accredited school
• Have applied or will be applying to a nursing program for the upcoming academic year
• Have a Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
• Be a nurse working towards an advanced degree
• Special Exception: Current BVRMC employees with a CNA certificate that have completed at least one semester of nursing education

Award Details:

• Number of scholarships varies based on donations
• Since 2003, 204 scholarships have been awarded
• Recipients must provide evidence of acceptable academic progress by February 1, 2027 to receive the second $500 payment
• Applicants must apply each year to be considered
• Recipients are only permitted to be awarded the scholarship twice in their lifetime

Application Process

1. Complete the BVRMC Foundation Nursing Scholarship Application
2. Gather three reference reports from qualified references
3. Submit application and references by deadline

Required Materials

• Applicant Information: Name, address, phone, email, emergency contact information
• School Information: School address (if different from applicant address)
• Education Information:
  • Name of college/university currently attending
  • Address of current institution
  • Contact name at institution
  • What year/upcoming term (Second, Third, Fourth, Advanced Degree)
  • Current Cumulative GPA
  • Previously attended college/university information (if applicable) with reason for leaving
• Essay/Personal Statement: Describe why you are pursuing a degree in Nursing and steps taken or planned to reach career goals. Include information regarding current and/or previous work experience, volunteer activities, and any unusual family or personal circumstances warranting attention from the Selection Committee
• Three Reference Reports: References must be submitted in person or by mail (email NOT accepted), postmarked or received by March 31

• Deadline: March 31 (application and references must be postmarked no later than March 31)
• Reference Reports: Three required; can be found on the website
• Submission Method: In person, mail, or attached to form

Continuation Requirements

• To receive the second $500 payment, recipient must provide evidence of acceptable academic progress by February 1, 2027 (unless prior arrangements are made)
