Overview

Building the Capacity of Black Programs (BCBP)

Status: Active program

Geographic Scope: National (United States)

Background: Ujima launched The Building the Capacity of Black Programs (BCBP) to support survivors of domestic violence from culturally specific populations. This program was created to address emergent needs resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and promote strategic partnership development and collaboration in responding to public health concerns for survivors.

Target Population: Domestic violence victims and survivors in the Black community, including:

  • Black Americans (descendants of enslaved Africans in the U.S.)

  • African immigrants, refugees, and asylees

  • Afro-Caribbean communities

  • Afro-Latinx communities
  • Focus Areas:

  • Proactively implement and expand culturally-specific programs providing essential support and resources to victims and survivors of domestic and family violence within the Black community

  • Increase Black victims and survivors' access to domestic violence services

  • Promote strategic partnership development and collaboration in responding to public health concerns for survivors of domestic violence

  • Provide targeted assistance and resources to foster safety, healing, and resilience

  • Increase the capacity of culturally specific organizations to deliver impactful and sustainable services

    Current Partners: Program operates through partnerships with organizations across multiple states including California, Colorado, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Oregon, Puerto Rico, Texas, Illinois, District of Columbia, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Washington.
