Brandon Hendricks Scholarship

Award Amount: $5,000 per recipient

Number of Awards: 10 scholarships annually

Geographic Scope: The Bronx, New York

Eligibility:

  • High school seniors graduating from Bronx high schools

  • Must be college-bound (accepted to and planning to attend college)

  • Must be from the Bronx community
  • Focus & Purpose:
    Established in 2021 by the Bronx Rising Initiative to honor Brandon Hendricks, a promising high school basketball player who was tragically killed by gun violence on June 29, 2020. Brandon had been accepted to college with a full scholarship and was determined to use his education to transform his community.

    The scholarship aims to:

  • Keep Brandon's passion and legacy alive

  • Enable young people in the Bronx to pursue higher education

  • Support students who want to use their education to improve the quality of life in the Bronx

  • Empower talented youth in the Bronx community
  • Award Use: Funds are designated for college education/tuition

    Background: Brandon Hendricks was a shining star and natural-born leader in the Bronx community. The scholarship was created in partnership with Brandon's family. As of 2022, 15 scholarship recipients had been awarded and were pursuing their education at various colleges and universities.
