Boston Athenaeum Fellowship Programs

Overview: The Boston Athenaeum offers several fellowship opportunities for researchers, scholars, and educators to support their work using the institution's collections and materials.

Geographic Scope: United States (applicants must be U.S. Citizens, Permanent Residents, or Foreign Nationals with appropriate U.S. government documents)

Eligibility:

  • PhD holders

  • Doctoral candidates (with dissertation advisor or supervisor letter of recommendation)

  • Secondary school teachers (requiring two letters of recommendation)

  • U.S. Citizens, Permanent Residents, or Foreign Nationals with appropriate U.S. government documents
  • Focus Areas: Research projects utilizing Boston Athenaeum special collections materials and resources. Joint fellowship applicants may also use Congregational Library and Archive materials.

    Required Materials:

    2. Letters of recommendation (submitted separately to fellowships@bostonathenaeum.org):
    - PhD holders: Not required (enter "N/A")
    - Doctoral candidates: One letter from dissertation advisor or supervisor
    - Secondary school teachers: Two letters of recommendation
    - Subject line of recommendation emails must contain applicant's full name
