Bisbee Foundation Berry Family Environmental Fund Grant

The Bisbee Foundation Berry Family Environmental Fund, an initiative of the Arizona Community Foundation, aims to support projects enhancing the natural environment in Bisbee. This grant encourages community involvement through initiatives like landscape enhancement, water harvesting, and conservation efforts. The fund, inspired by the Berry siblings' respect for nature, seeks to preserve Bisbee's unique environmental heritage while fostering community engagement in ecological projects.

The Bisbee Foundation is a component fund of the Arizona Community Foundation.
The Bisbee Foundation creates and builds support to assure the continuing success of Bisbee.
The Bisbee Foundation's focus is to play a role in Bisbee's future by working with groups/individuals who are in the arts, humanities, education and historic preservation with goals designed to preserve and enhance:

• Bisbee's unique place in the history of the Southwest
• The contribution made to Bisbee's cultural character by its creative people
• Bisbee's architectural and environmental inheritance
• The Berry Family Environmental Grant

The Berry siblings - Gordon, Lynne and Jeff, have throughout their lives held an abiding respect for the natural environment. When Gordon decided to give back to the community, it was a "natural fit" to provide a dedicated fund to support environmental projects.
The Berry Environmental Grant may be given to encourage the enhancement of the natural environment within the Bisbee granting area. The grant proposals may include, but would not be limited to, such things as tree, shrub and other landscape enhancement projects in public, and in certain situations, private locations; water harvesting and site contouring for water catchment; community garden support; community cleanup; and other conservation projects.

Eligibility

In order to be eligible for this grant, a nonprofit organization must have the following:
Status as a nonprofit corporation in the State of Arizona and tax-exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service with at least a two-year programming history. If an organization does not have nonprofit status it may use a fiscal receiver (umbrella sponsorship) contingent on:

• Approval of the governing board of the umbrella organization
• A written contract executed between the applicant and the umbrella organization
• Umbrella organization being fully responsible for all financial commitments related to the application
• Non-discriminatory employment and personnel policies
• The ability to provide the following documents:
• IRS NonProfit status letter if applicable
• Articles of Incorporation
• Bylaws
• Current list of board members and staff
• Current fiscal year budget

Ineligibility

The following do not qualify for funding:

• Organizations receiving more than 50% of their annual budget from a public tax-supported source
• Divisions or departments of government, including colleges, universities, school districts
• Political and/or religious organizations and committees
• Private for-profit corporations/organizations
• Grants are not awarded for the following:
• Travel outside Arizona
• Debt retirement, capital improvements, or purchase of real estate
• Tuition costs or refreshment costs
• Salaries beyond the duration of the project
• The establishment or augmentation of endowment funds
